Searching for a job can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. Many people have experienced the disappointment of turning in an application or resume to dozens of businesses without success. Unfortunately, this step is often the most unsuccessful step in trying to find a job. You can turn in a dozen applications and might be lucky to get one or two interviews if you do not know the secret to getting opportunities.
If a company is looking for employees, you turn in an application, and you never hear from them again, you are probably doing something wrong. If the business had an opening, then they certainly will fill it soon, so you know that someone got an interview and you did not. Why were you not the one that got the interview? Probably because you did not make sure the hiring manager knew who you were.
When turning in an application or resume, you should always ask to see a manager. You should also come when they will not be busy, since occasionally a manager will give you an interview on the spot. In case this happens, you should always dress nicely when turning in an application. After you have turned in an application, call the business or go in a few days later and ask if the manager has had a chance to look over your application. Do this every few days and the manager will recognize you when looking through applications and will know that you really want the job.
