Sometimes the hardest part of getting a job is having to sell yourself on a job. It’s a difficult thing to put yourself out there on cue, but it’s also essential to getting the job. If you don’t do it right the someone else will. What you have to do is come into the interview portion and make the best impression possible here are a few tips so you can impress and begin working immediately.

You never show up on time for an interview. You should always arrive 10 to 15 minutes earlier than they say. If they have instructed you to show up early already than you may show up at that designated time, but otherwise you are never to show up anything but early. You don’t want to make the mistake of showing them you aren’t serious about the position.

Make sure you start off on the right foot. You need to make eye contact and begin the meeting with a firm handshake. You also need to make sure that your posture is well presented. Don’t slouch and make sure you have a handkerchief around so that you may blow your nose if needed or cough into it. These seem like picky rules but they all count towards how you are perceived.

From that point on it will be up to you to sell yourself. You should be ready for any question so don’t go in there with too many expectations. You should be ready for anything and expect only the best results.

First of all the resume should be formatted in a well manner which is the first impression. Once a resume is posted the next thing to do is to prepare one according to the expected interview questions.

The most important thing which one must do is to gain more information about the organization in which the applicant is applying for a job so, gather all the possible history of the organization. The answers given by the applicant should be confident and are best to the applicant’s knowledge. Always ask questions about the work one has to go with so the interviewer must understand the curiosity of working in the applicant. Handling Student Loans

Jack, a recent college graduate, landed a well-paying job. However, he is $100,000 in debt. In a few short months, he will need to start paying back those loans. He’s worried if he will be able to handle the payments.

If you are like Jack, the first thing that you need to think about is using a debt consolidation service. Consolidation can lower your debt and interest rate.

There are two basic types of loans. One is from a private lending institution and the other is a federal school loan. Never consolidate federal loans with private loans. Because federal loans have government backing, you can refinance them at a lower interest rate than the rates at a private lending institution.

Federal loans can be consolidated through the Federal Direct Consolidation Loan program. That program allows different repayment schedule and helps you gain control over your debt. The object of consolidation is to reduce the interest rate and monthly payment. Make sure that your consolidated loan gives you that.

Because of the economy woes over the last several years, many private lending institutions have stopped giving out student loans. Currently, there are few lenders who are willing to consolidate student loans. If you use one of these institutions you need to know that your FICO credit score will determine whether or not you get a loan and what interest rate you will be paying. The interest rate you get from these places is usually tied to the prime rate. That means if the prime rate goes up, the rate on your loan will go up.

A third option is getting a personal loan from a credit union or bank. You could get a personal loan with a low monthly payment and a low interest rate. Use the money that you borrow to pay off your multiple student loans. Then, you will only have one loan to worry about and that loan.

In today’s weak economy and weak job market, most of us need to be aware of the ways we need to succeed in either finding a new job or advancing in the one we currently hold. There are many ways we can increase our marketability to either our current or potential employers.

Increasing your job skills increases your marketability. This may mean obtaining a degree or expanding your skill set. You may want to consider continuing or advancing your education. There are several ways that this can be done, even while working. Consider obtaining skills by enrolling in a program that offers distance learning degrees. These programs are very flexible, allowing you to attain a degree while still working. You can also take evening classes or coursework from local universities or colleges that fit into your schedule.

If you haven’t worked in a while, whether that is voluntary or involuntary, you may want to consider enrolling in a job search class or seminar. You’ll be able to gain job search and interview skills. These programs will be beneficial in your job search as they will teach you how to successfully look for jobs within your particular skill set, as well as how to interview successfully.

Make sure that your resume is professional and up-to-date. Consider hiring a professional resume writer or service. These people can help make your background, experiences and skills look their best. They may point out aspects of your experience or background to highlight depending on the type of job you are seeking.

Make sure you are networking. It’s a great idea to asking friends and family for any job tips they may know of. You can also attend professional seminars and meetings to make additional job contacts. You never know who may be hiring or looking for someone with your skills.

Take the GMAT Prep Course Without Plans to Take the Test?

There’s been talk lately that taking a class like a GMAT prep course, even if you aren’t planning to take the test, can be beneficial.  These prep courses offer much more than test questions; they also offer insight on studying, time management, and getting over fears (such as taking tests).
Some people shy away from things like this because it can cost some money to take a test prep course.  But, if these skills are something that you are interested in learning, it could be beneficial.  On top of that, you never know – you may learn something about the test as well.  This could easily spark an interest in the topic.
For example, if you do decide to take a GMAT prep course, you may find that you are interested in business management.  This is something that you may have never considered before.  After taking the class, though, you might make the decision to go ahead and take a few more actual classes on the subject.  If this happens, then you might find yourself on a new career path.  Though this is not something that is guaranteed to happen, it is something that could be life changing.
You may not want to take a prep class just to see if it will spark an interest, though.  If this is your motivation, you may want to head to the local college and take a few classes in the subject itself.  Not only will this give you a broader and better view of the degree, it will also allow you to start accumulating credits, in case you do decide to go back to school.  This will help you, no matter what degree you decide to pursue.  It never hurts to have a few extra credits under your belt.

Why Seasonal Jobs May Be the Answer to Your Job Search

Getting in through the back door, so to speak, may be a viable option to gaining long-term employment in a tight job market. This is according to a new survey conducted during the period of August 17 to September 2, 2010, by CareerBuilder, a leading online site for jobs and career development.

The survey revealed that of the more than 2400 employers polled, some 40 percent would likely transition some seasonal workers hired during the last quarter of 2010 into permanent positions, up almost 10 percent over 2009 figures.

While retail and customer service positions made up the bulk of the openings, with 33 percent and 31 percent respectively, other job hirings were planned in administrative support, packaging and delivery, the hospitality industry, and various other retail and office related areas such as public relations, marketing, and inventory management. Almost half of employers asked indicated they were planning to pay at least $10 or more per hour, while 9 percent expected to pay at least $16 per hour.

For job seekers this is good news. According to Brent Rasmussen, President of CareerBuilder North America, “Seasonal work can be a valuable opportunity for job seekers to not only gain new skills and experience, but to also land full-time, permanent positions.”

While the hiring for the 2010 season may be all but over, those who are in seasonal positions should heed the tips participating survey employers gave for turning that seasonal job into a permanent full-time position.

Their top tips were:

31 percent of respondents said:
Be proactive in providing customer service, instead of waiting to be asked.

28 percent of respondents said:
Tell the employer immediately upon hire that a full-time position is desired.

23 percent of respondents said:
Take the initiative in requesting more responsibilities and projects.

20 percent of respondents said:
Demonstrate value to the company by presenting new and better ideas.

15 percent of respondents said:
Be concerned about the organization by asking questions.

In a down job market, keeping that seasonal job may be the answer to the job search dilemma.
